El vertido ilegal de residuos sólidos: un estudio de caso

Resumen
El vertido ilegal de residuos es un problema global que compromete el medioambiente. España encabeza el ranking de infracciones medioambientales con más de 1500 vertederos ilegales, aunque la alta cifra negra -y ausencia de estudios - impide conocer la verdadera magnitud del fenómeno. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo localizar y analizar los puntos de residuo sólido ilegal (frecuencia, distribución geográfica, variables asociadas, composición, etc.) tomando como estudio de caso la ciudad de Mérida (Badajoz). El método, de carácter mixto, se ha basado en el análisis de datos policiales, batidas de campo, y entrevistas y cuestionarios a contactos clave. Los resultados revelan la presencia de 1110 puntos de vertido ilegal ubicados en zonas periurbanas. Se trata de una conducta frecuente llevada a cabo para ahorrar tasas. Es necesario mejorar la trazabilidad del residuo, incentivar el reciclado y sensibilizar a la población.
